On Wednesday, April 25, 2007 Long Beach Fire Chief Dave Ellis was presented with the Distinguished Citizen "Golden Eagle" Award for 2007. This award was presented at a dinner in his honor, and hosted by the Long Beach Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Numerous city dignitaries, including Mayor Bob Foster and members of the City Council attended the dinner. City Manager, Jerry Miller as the dinner Chairman and Police Chief Anthony Batts performed as Master of Ceremonies.
Hired in 1982, Chief Ellis is a 24-year veteran of the LBFD. Chief Ellis has been recognized this year for his commitment to the City of Long Beach and the safety of its residents. Chief Ellis has made great strides in his career promoting through the ranks of Firefighter, Paramedic, Captain, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief, and finally Fire Chief in 2004.
This dinner is held annually by the Boy Scouts and helps to raise money for scouting and leadership programs in the greater Long Beach area. Programs like this help form our future by turning the youthful scouts of today into the leaders of tomorrow. This year's dinner was held at the Long Beach Hilton and had approximately 500 people in attendance.
The Long Beach Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is under the direction of Lee Martin, Scout Executive and CEO.
