The City of Long Beach Gas and Oil Department (LBGO) has an ongoing natural gas pipeline maintenance and replacement program to maintain safe natural gas service. LBGO has contracted with ARB Inc. to replace portions of the underground natural gas pipeline system in the vicinity of Pine Avenue.
During the construction period of August 7th through August 18th, Pine Avenue will be subject to intermittent closure between 3rd and 6th Streets, Monday thru Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pine Avenue will be fully open to traffic on the weekend and after 4:30 p.m. each weekday.
Bus traffic and special deliveries will be allowed during construction time but will be subject to traffic control. Sidewalk pedestrian traffic will continue as normal. East and westbound traffic crossing Pine Avenue will be allowed, but will also be subject to traffic control. Attempts will be made to limit "No Parking" areas as much as is practical and such areas will be posted 24 hours in advance when possible. Vehicles parking in the posted areas during the work hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday will be subject to towing and impound.
A community meeting is planned to provide more information to residents and businesses on the scope of work. This meeting will be held on Wednesday August 2nd at 7:00 pm at The Vault located at 350 Pine Avenue.
Construction activities may, in very limited cases, include excavations on your property. This may include sawing, breaking and removal of concrete or other surfacing materials such as stone, brick or organic landscaping. By contractual agreement, all excavations are to be returned to their original condition after the work is completed. Removed concrete may be temporarily patched with asphalt for safety for a short period of time until permanently repaired with concrete.
LBGO and ARB will make every effort to avoid interruption to your gas service. If an interruption of your service is unavoidable, LBGO personnel will, at no charge, re-install your gas meter and perform a gas line safety check of your residence/business prior to relighting your appliances. Please note that LBGO is not responsible for repairing any leak discovered in your residence/business gas piping (anything upstream or on the building side of the meter) that is discovered as part of this safety check.
We apologize for any inconvenience this project may cause you; however, we are confident that you will recognize the necessity of this project in maintaining continued safe and efficient delivery of natural gas to the citizens and businesses of Long Beach.
