Sponsored by the Healthy Homes Program of the Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department), the free workshops will be held from February 15 - April 10 at various locations throughout Long Beach.
"Increasing awareness about common household health hazards is critical to preventing poor health outcomes among residents," said Ronald R. Arias, Director, City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services. These workshops will provide individuals and families information on the prevention of health hazards in the home, and the prevention of asthma, allergies and other respiratory illnesses. Additionally, information on reducing pest infestation and how to effectively dialogue with landlords regarding improvement of housing conditions will also be discussed. Various tools and techniques residents can use to safely clean their homes will also be provided.
The workshops are being conducted by the Health Department as part of a national effort to reduce environmental health hazards in the home and are funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. "Green Kits" containing non-toxic cleaning supplies, safety supplies, and one new vacuum will be given away to a participant at each workshop.
Contact Judeth Luong, Healthy Homes Program Coordinator at (562) 570-4104 for more information and for the complete listing of dates and locations of upcoming workshops throughout the City.
