The Long Beach Police Explorers participated in the 8th Annual Law Enforcement Explorer Competition hosted by the Chandler Police Department in the State of Arizona. The Tactical Competition was held from January 13 through January 15, 2006. The Long Beach team consisted of 13 Explorers and Four Advisors.
The Tactical Competition was compromised of scenarios with an emphasis on teamwork, communication, and tactics, similar to a SWAT Team. The competition tested the explorers’ abilities in leadership, teamwork, tactics, confidence, and team spirit.
This year’s competition was bigger and more competitive than the years past. There were over 200 advisors and over 800 police explorers with 60 teams from various agencies throughout the States of California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and Texas.
We are proud to announce the Long Beach Police Department's success in the following events.
The LBPD Explorer Team placed 1st in Hostage Rescue (back to back champions, 1st place in 2005), 1st in the Sniper Challenge, and 3rd in the Rapid Deployment exercises. In individual events, Explorer Lieutenant John Franklin took 5th place in FATS (Firearms Training System), and Explorer Lieutenant Justin Hidalgo took 3rd place in FATS and 5th in Male Obstacle Course. These are outstanding results, due to not only the high level of competition, but also the number of teams competing.
