Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine Offers Unique Memorial Opportunities
If you would like to commemorate a child’s birth or a lost loved one, memorialize a special family location, a special vow, or just add beauty to the community, two unique and thoughtful programs are available through the Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine.

The Dedicate-a-Tree and Memorial Bench Programs allow individuals and families to honor memorable occasions in their lives while enhancing the parks and open spaces in Long Beach.

The Dedicate-a-Tree Program offers a 24" box tree that can be planted at a few select park locations in the city between the months of October and May. The family can select the city park location, as well as type of tree to be planted from a few pre-determined sites.  Call for sites and tree varieties that are currently available.  The individual or family can assist with the tree planting if they wish and a certificate commemorating the tree planting will be mailed to them. The cost for each tree is only $300 and the purchase is coordinated through Partners of Parks, a non-profit organization that supports Long Beach parks, recreation and beaches. For additional information about the Dedicate-a-Tree program call (562) 570-4897.

The Memorial Bench Program offers individuals the opportunity to install a concrete bench with a memorial plaque in a city park or open space location. Installation can be at a new location or can replace an old worn out existing bench.  The cost for the bench itself is $950, the memorial plaque is between $250-$500 depending on the verbage, the concrete slab is $1,200 and there is an additional fee of $300 for the use of the city crane and an operator for a minimum of two hours.  The purchase of the memorial bench is also coordinated by the Partners of Parks.   For additional information, contact the Maintenance Operations Bureau at (562) 570-1961.
