On Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at approximately 8:10 p.m., Narcotics Detectives responded to the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Willow Street to conduct surveillance when they learned of a possible drug deal that was going to be taking place in the area. The detectives observed two males and three females engaging in a narcotics transaction of a large quantity, consisting of Methamphetamine in ice form. When detectives attempted to detain the suspects, a short foot pursuit ensued. During that pursuit, one suspect threw a loaded gun while being chased. All of the suspects, two of whom were on parole, were arrested for various charges including possession for sales and possession of a dangerous weapon. One of the females that was arrested also had a toddler with her at the time of this incident. Detectives arrested two males, ages 24 and 26, and three females, ages 23, 25, and 36, all from Long Beach.
During the investigation, detectives learned of additional information that led them to an apartment building in the 1000 block of Lime Avenue. A search warrant was subsequently served at this location where detectives confiscated five handguns, a fully automatic machine gun, two assault rifles, a sawed-off shotgun, three silencers, two bullet-proof vests, a large quantity of US currency and ammunition, two-way radios, a police scanner and video surveillance equipment including cameras that covered the front and side yards of the complex. A Methamphetamine lab with chemicals was also discovered. Two suspects, a 23-year-old male, and an 18 year-old female were arrested at that location and were booked for possession for sales and possession of a dangerous weapon.
