Beginning Monday January 28, 2008, the United States Corps of Engineers will be conducting maintenance dredging to clear the navigation channel to the Catalina Express terminal in Queensway Bay. The dredging will extend from a few hundred yards seaward of the Queensway Bay Bridge to the mouth of the Catalina Express Basin. The channel was closed for several months after a severe storm in January 2005, and was reopened only at minimal operating width in the spring of 2005. This maintenance dredging has been planned for some time, but is also timely, as the channel has been closed again due to storms earlier this month.
