In the past decade, we have learned a great deal about early childhood needs and how strengthening the relationships between adults and kids promote healthy social and emotional development. On May 11, 2013, in celebration of National Children's Mental Health Day, Councilman Dee Andrews and Project ABC will co-host "Me and My Shadow Family Fun Day"- a community event designed for caregivers, care providers, family and community members working with or parenting children 0-5 years old. The event will run from 12pm-4pm at Martin Luther King Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach, CA. It will include facilitated, interactive mini sessions to engage both the adults and children in attendance.

Councilman Dee Andrews invites residents to Celebrate Reading with the AOC7 Literacy Fair. The children of AOC7 and its surrounding areas will have the opportunity to CELEBRATE READING on May 11, 2013 at the Literacy Fair, located at MacArthur Park, 1321 E. Anaheim, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We will have music, multicultural dances, literacy booths and storytelling.

Councilman Dee Andrews, Long Beach Advocates For Change (LBAFC), and Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC) are hosting a symposium for the youth in the Central Long Beach community. The event will be focusing on policy change and violence prevention.
