Councilmember Suja Lowenthal & the City set aside funding for high priority park and playground projects at Bixby Park. Three workshops were held along with on site and online surveys to gain community feedback. Celebrate the end of a great "100 Days of Summer" season with a free concert by one of the best Journey Tribute Bands around, DSB (Don't Stop Believin'), on Friday, August 30, at 6 pm, at Blair Field, 4700 Deukmejian Dr. in Long Beach.

Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster announced today that Occidental Petroleum Corporation has donated $1 million to help fund improvements to Chittick Field. The 19-acre site near Pacific Coast Highway and Walnut Avenue is being revitalized with the construction of a new sports park with soccer fields, a football field, a track, restrooms and parking.

The City of Long Beach has announced that the Indoor Pool at Belmont Plaza must be permanently shuttered to ensure the safety of the community.  The City's Building Official and the City Engineer have determined the Belmont Pool Natatorium, in its current condition, is a substandard building that is seismically and structurally unsafe.

Belmont Plaza Pool to Remain Closed
The City of Long Beach announced today that the Belmont Pool must be permanently shuttered to ensure the safety of the community.  On January 10, 2013 the Belmont Pool was temporarily closed due to a draft Structural and Seismic Evaluation that indicated the facility was seismically unsafe in the event of a moderate earthquake. The pool was temporarily closed in an abundance of caution for patrons and staff while City engineers reviewed the draft analysis and inspected the facility to confirm the extent of its structural safety.

Heartwell Park Bike Path to Be Closed for Repairs
Beginning Dec. 6, 2010, the bike path in Heartwell Park will be closed   for maintenance.  The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will repair cracked and broken sections of the bike path between Bellflower Blvd. and Lakewood Blvd. The project is expected to be completed in approximately three weeks. National Public Lands Day Help Restore The Nature Center!
The 15th Annual National Public Lands Day is coming up this Saturday, September 27, registration begins at 9 am and event starts at 10 am and ends at noon. The project at the El Dorado Nature Center involves restoring the original native plant life that was indigenous to the Long Beach coastal area.

Long Beach boy learning to surf. Come Ride The Surf Bus!
Board the Long Beach Surf Bus for a day of sun and fun in Huntington Beach. Kids ages 5 to 17 will be picked up at one of 19 locations at Long Beach parks, and taken down to Seapoint in Huntington Beach for FREE surfing lessons once a week for five weeks. The program begins the week of July 21-25 and runs through the week of August 18-22.

A baseball game between the Cal State Long Beach 49er Dirt Bags and the Cal State Santa Barbara Gauchos begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a fireworks display, a first for Long Beach Dirtbag fans.
