Most of the plants are well suited to Southern California’s dry climate and require minimal watering once established. On November 22, kids up to 15 years of age will be able to fish with their own poles at El Dorado East Regional Park lake in Long Beach. (Anyone over 16 years of age is required to have a CA State Fishing License.) Volunteers and staff of the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation will be on hand to lend rods and reels, and to educate kids on proper fishing techniques and etiquette. Long Beach’s Heartwell Golf Course has been named by Southland Golf Magazine as one of the 2 best par-3 golf courses in Southern California. Heartwell is an 18-hole, 2,143 yard par-54 course with bunkers, water, fairways, plenty of undulation and grass tee boxes. Southland Golf says these features give the track an uncanny “real course” feel. Escondido’s Reidy Creek course was the second course mentioned in the article.
