The Long Beach Police Department is seeking the public's help with identifying a suspect that is wanted in connection with seven sexual assaults that have occurred during July 15, 2010, through August 5, 2010. All of the incidents have occurred in apartment complexes near the area of Paramount Boulevard and South Street.

The LBPD is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a possible suspect and vehicle, which are believed to be involved in the murder of Jonathan Cordova who was gunned down on Saturday January 30, 2010 at approximately 11:30 p.m., in the area of 15th Street and Stanley Avenue.   Witnesses described the suspect as male Hispanic or Puerto Rican last seen running eastbound on 15th Street away from the shooting location.

Robbery Suspect ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED (Video Footage & Suspect Photos Available)

*IN CUSTODY*  The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a robbery suspect wanted in connection with a string of armed robberies to businesses occurring in the Long Beach area over the past three weeks.  Several businesses in Long Beach and one in Lakewood have been robbed since October 20, 2009. In each of the incidents, one suspect enters the business and demands cash while showing a handgun.  Once he gets the cash, he exits the business and flees in a vehicle.

Victim Melody Ross ARREST IN THE MURDER OF MELODY ROSS
Long Beach Police Department Detectives have arrested the suspects believed to be responsible for the senseless murder of Melody Ross and the attempted murder of the 18-year-old and 20-year-old male victims.  (+View News Release)

Suspects Vehicle SUBJECT SUSPECTED OF IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER
Long Beach Police are currently investigating an individual they believe may have been impersonating a police officer, and are asking for the public's help.  The suspect is described as a male White, 34-years-old, with brown hair, hazel eyes, and is 5'9" tall and weighs 215 lbs.  He was driving a blue 2004 Dodge Ram 1500, similar to the one depicted in the photo.

News Image SHOOTING VICTIM DIES... POLICE SEEK PUBLIC'S HELP
During an investigation, detectives learned that a red or maroon mini-van was possibly involved in the shooting. Detectives located video surveillance footage from a nearby business showing what appears to be a red, possibly Dodge mini-van. Detectives believe this vehicle may be involved in the death of Victim Benitez, and are asking anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the incident to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Russ Moss or Terri Hubert at (562) 570-7244.

Bronze Bust of Sgt. Gil Smith LBPD MOTOR PATROL DONATES BUST OF FORMER MOTOR SGT. GIL SMITH

To commemorate the Motor Centennial the Long Beach Police Motor Patrol Association commissioned Artist Thomas Marsh to produce a bronze bust of former Motor Sgt. Gil Smith. The Bust was unveiled during the Motor Centennial Dinner on Aug 21st at the Petroleum Club. The lobby of the Downtown Police Station will be the home of the Bust. It will be floor mounted on Thursday, September 10th at 11:00 am in the Downtown Station Lobby.

LBPD Crime Stats CRIME CONTINUES TO DROP IN LONG BEACH - 2008 STATS RELEASED
The City of Long Beach continued to realize its goal of becoming California's safest large city as the overall crime rate declined 5.6% in 2008, marking the 5th year of crime reduction since 2002.  In 2008, Part 1 Violent Crime decreased 8% as compared to 2007, and is at the lowest level since the early 1970's.

Don SMOKING IN CARS WITH KIDS NOW ILLEGAL

California is now the third state in the nation to ban smoking in the car with minors. The new law imposes a fine of up to $100 for smoking a pipe, cigar or cigarette in a motor vehicle with another person 17 or younger.

Toy Patrol Pics LBPD TOY PATROL 2008... GREAT SUCCESS

This year's drive was coordinated by Sergeant Paul Sanford, who coordinated dozens of toy pick-ups from individuals, groups, and businesses throughout the city who generously donated to this good cause.  This year we collaborated with the Fire Department, and with the assistance of our kind and loyal volunteers who prepared, sorted, and bagged thousands of food and toys, many needy families enjoyed a hot meal on their table, and clothes and toys for their children. 

Special thanks to those that donated to the program, including the Neighborhood Watch groups that organized their own toy drives to contribute.

SHP Donates Segways SHP SEGWAYS INTO COMMUNITY POLICING

Through the Long Beach Police Foundation, Signal Hill Petroleum donated the funds to underwrite Segways to be used in the department's North Division. The Segways from Segway Long Beach are a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle, a perfect transportation answer to short distance travel.

Missing Woman Concepcion Cadena ELDERLY WOMAN MISSING
The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating an elderly woman who has been missing since Sunday, December 30, 2007, at approx. 6:00 a.m.  The woman, identified as 76-year-old Concepcion Cadena, left her home in the 4600 block of Bellflower Boulevard, Long Beach, and has not been seen since.  She was last seen wearing a blue nightgown with two angels on the front, green pants with yellow and blue flowers, blue shoes, and an ID bracelet on her left wrist.  She was also possibly wearing a red sweater.  Victim Cadena suffers from Alzheimer's and Diabetes, and is in need of her medication.  Anyone who sees her or knows of her whereabouts is urged to contact the Long Beach Police Department at (562) 435-6711.

News Image LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY DIES IN SHOOTING
The investigation into the shooting death of off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Maria Cecilia Rosa is on-going.  The shooting occurred on March 28, 2006, at approximately 6:15 a.m. in the 2900 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in Long Beach.  Deputy Rosa was found on the ground outside a residence.  She was immediatley transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.  Anyone who may have any information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Long Beach Police Department's Homicide Detail at (562) 570-7244 or 9-1-1 if an immediate police response is needed.  Click on "more" for additional information on Deputy Rosa.

On January 1, 2006, Long Beach Police Commander Frank McCoy was hired as Chief of Police for the Oceanside Police Department.  Commander McCoy spent 19 years with the Long Beach Police Department, working various assignments including Patrol, Gangs, Domestic Violence, SWAT and Internal Affairs.

On January 5, 2006, Chief McCoy was officially sworn in as the City of Oceanside’s Police Chief.  The Long Beach Police Department congratulates Chief McCoy and wishes him much success in his new position.

Each December, we conduct an outreach program called "Toy Patrol" which is an opportunity for the Community, businesses and individuals, to partner with us in assisting these families. In 2004, officers and other individuals delivered gifts to over 1000 children. The children were thrilled, and the parents were grateful to the point of tears. The Long Beach Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man whose charred remains were found inside an abandoned building, after a structure fire. The fire occurred on September 29, 2001 in the 300 block of East Louise Street in the city of Long Beach and was described as, ‘suspicious’ by Arson Investigators.

The Long Beach Police Department has seen an increase of juveniles in possession of handgun replica air guns.  These guns look like actual handguns and fire pellets.  Parents are reminded that City ordinance (LBMC 9.52.020) does state it is illegal for any person under the age of 18 to possess such types of guns.  As a warning to parents, police officers are finding ice cream and other street vendors selling these types of guns.

On Sunday, November 13, 2005, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to the 300 block of East Rhea Street in regards to a shooting that resulted in the death of a male adult.

Long Beach Police Detectives following up on an investigation served a search warrant at an apartment building in the 1000 block of Lime Avenue.  As a result of the search warrant, the detectives seized five handguns, a fully automatic machine gun, two assaults rifles, a sawed-off shot gun three silencers, two bullet-proof vests, a large quantity of U.S. currency and ammunition, two-way radios, a police scanner and video surveillance equipment including cameras that monitored the front and side yards of the complex.  A Methamphetamine lab with chemicals was also discovered.

The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a two-year-old that was taken from her home by her mother’s 43-year-old boyfriend.  The victim was abducted from the 1000 block of east 7th Street this morning.

News Image CACHE OF WEAPONS AND AMMO SEIZED WHILE SERVING GANG INJUNCTION
While attempting to serve a court sanctioned gang injunction, officers arrested six people, seized eight weapons including, 2 assault rifles, 1 sawed off shotgun, 1 submachine gun, 1 sawed off 22-caliber rifle and 3 handguns.  Also seized was a large amount of ammunition, 3 bulletproof vests and one pound of methamphetamine.

MISSING PERSON - 79 YEAR-OLD KAJ HANSEN BODY OF MISSING MAN FOUND - SUSPECT ARRESTED
The body of Kaj Hansen, a missing person from the night before, was found in a vacant field in Irvine, California, on the morning of June 18th.  Victim Hansen died as a result of multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma.  Police have arrested 54 year-old James Doherty of Long Beach in connection with the murder.  Suspect Doherty was in the process of being evicted from his apartment by Victim Hansen.  Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation should contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Bryan McMahon and Dave Rios at (562) 570-7244.
