| |  |  |   | | School and Group Programs Register for programs at (562) 570-1745 Beetle Brigade Ages 3-5. As winter turns to spring we’ll discover how young plants and animals grow and flourish. Animal babies, seeds and flowers will be the focus of our exploration. Sing a song, listen to a story or make friends with a puppet. Tours are 90 minutes in length. $4 per person. Discovery Tours Elementary teachers, explore the Nature Center trails with your students on a naturalist-guided tour. You’ll make discoveries through hands-on investigation and activities designed to support the Academic Content Standards at your grade level. Tours are two hours in length. $5 per person. Kindergarten - Turtle Shells and Flower Smells Join us on a sensory safari as we use our eyes, ears, nose and fingers to experience the living world around us. We'll watch for wings, listen for leaves and smell for scents as we observe similarities and differences in plants and animals. First Grade - Stayin' Alive What do all living things need to survive? We'll discover the answers to this question and more as we explore how animals find food, water, shelter and space in the wild. Second Grade - Are You My Mother? From caterpillar to butterfly, tadpole to frog, seed to blossom, we'll investigate the life cycles of plants and animals. As we hike the trails, students will learn that all living things change as they grow. Third Grade - Home Sweet Habitat Many birds, reptiles, insects and mammals call the Nature Center home. Whether they live at the muddy edges of the stream, in the top of the tallest tree, or in a hole in the ground, discover how their color, teeth, feathers, scales and fur enable them to survive. Fourth Grade - Web of Life From a red-shouldered hawk hunting for gophers over the meadow, to a beetle munching on leaf litter, this tour takes a look at how living things depend on one another and on their environment for survival. Students will explore the role that producers, consumers and decomposers have in cycling energy and matter through an ecosystem. Fifth Grade - What about Water? The San Gabriel River watershed encompasses the Nature Center's ponds and streams that provide food, shelter and water for many animals. Using scientific tools and instruments, your students will explore these important habitats and discover the unique, life-sustaining properties of water. Adopt A Beach “Explore the Shore” 5th Grade Tour Sponsored by El Dorado Nature Center and the City of Long Beach’s Adopt A Beach program. In this hands-on two hour program, students will use scientific tools and instruments to discover how water sustains all life on earth, and how the water cycle shapes our local watershed and affects the marine ecosystem. Two locations to serve: Granada Beach or Cherry Beach. $5 per person. Badger Tours Ages 5-18. Scouts can enhance merit badge work with a 90 minute program focused on a specific badge. $4 per person. For all tours: - A non-refundable $20 permit processing fee and a tour deposit equal to the per-person fee for 10 children is necessary to confirm each tour reservation.
