Queen Mary Will Get New Coat Of A Few Historic ColorsRelease Date: 2017-07-11
Mayor Robert Garcia and Urban Commons VP of asset management John Jenkins slapped some paint on a Queen Mary bulkhead Monday morning, signaling the beginning of an ambitious paint job for the iconic ship.
"This is going to be one of the biggest paint jobs ever seen in Long Beach," Jenkins said to a small gathering of press and dignitaries. "It hasn't been painted in more than 15 years."
This project to paint the entire ship will cover more than 240,000 square feet of surface and take about eight months. A specially formulated paint called Maxon-CRS will be used on all metal surfaces, eliminating the rust there now and protecting against future rust.
