Bike Share is Here

Release Date: 2016-03-10

Today after several years of hard work, Long Beach opened our first Bike Share station, at the Promenade and 3rd Street. Over the next few weeks, 10 stations and 100 bikes will be set up in and around Downtown Long Beach. Eventually, there will be 50 stations with 500 total bikes throughout the city, connecting our college campuses, Uptown, Midtown, Bixby Knolls, Belmont Shore, and all our great neighborhoods.

Bike share is a great way for residents and visitors to get around town and have fun doing it. It also supports sustainability, and health and fitness.

Anyone can sign up for an account, rent a bike, and ride anywhere in the city, any time. You have the option of renting the bike on an hourly basis, or purchasing a membership monthly pass, and you can sign up, get more information, and download the free mobile app at www.longbeachbikeshare.com.

You can also sign up for memberships and try out a bicycle during Beach Streets on March 19.

I want to thank our City Manager's office for their hard work on this project, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority the funding they've contributed, and Cycle Hop, who is providing the bike stations and bicycles.

Bike Share is just one reason Long Beach continues to be one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in America.  I hope you'll try it out soon!

Go Long Beach!
