Our Ports are Moving Again

I just received the good news that our west coast dockworkers and shippers have reached an agreement and are ready to get back to work. This is great news for our country and great news for Long Beach. Now we can move forward and get to work.


Virgin Galactic to Open New Satellite Launcher Facility in Long Beach

Virgin Galactic, the privately-funded space company founded by Sir Richard Branson, is moving into a new 150,000 sq ft facility right next to the Long Beach Airport at Douglas Park. Virgin Galactic will manufacture the company's new satellite launch vehicle, LauncherOne, right here in Long Beach.


Mayor Garcia Appoints Economic Development Commissioners

Today, I'm announcing a great step forward for economic development in Long Beach. I have selected 11 commissioners to serve on the Economic Development Commission, which had been inactive for several years. The commission will be charged with generating ideas and advising the council in support of economic growth and prosperity for Long Beach.

Mayor Garcia is in Washington, D.C. this week to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting, meet with White House staff, members of Congress, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff.

He is advocating for additional support for our ports, infrastructure, our educational institutions, and for support to move forward on the breakwater / ecosystem restoration study.
