Kids @ LBPL
Children of all ages can cultivate a love of reading, close the word gap, avoid summer slide, explore STEM activities and other technologies, celebrate diversity, and get homework assistance by visiting one of our twelve locations.
Our Digital Library provides access to eBooks and eAudio, educational databases, live homework assistance, and other avenues of enrichment even when our doors are closed!
Dive Into Reading
A year-round early literacy program for our youngest readers. We challenge you to read 1,000 books to your little one before starting kindergarten. It's easier than you think! And for every hundred books read, a prize is earned!
Preschool Without Walls
A preschool that promotes the use of public space as natural learning environments! Administered by SBCC Thrive LA, some LBPL libraries serve as regular classroom sites. To learn more about participating, contact SBCC Thrive LA directly.
Make new friends and set the foundation for lifelong learning and literacy at one of our storytimes. Enjoy books, rhymes, songs, and games together!
Events + Programs
Check out our Event Calendar for other events and programs especially for early childhood and families! There's something fun happening every day at LBPL.
Find the resources and support you need for academic success at LBPL! Connect with an online tutor for one-on-one homework help through Brainfuse Help Now. Use the research databases in our Digital Library to complete your school assignments. Reach out to a Librarian for help locating the best materials for your work. Access resources and learn more on our Homework Help page.
Family Learning Centers
There is a Family Learning Center at each library where students can get one-on-one homework help on a drop-in basis. Family Learning Center staff can help students use databases and other online resources. The Center is not just for kids! It's also a great place for parents to interact with each other, with library staff, get assistance using library materials, and learn how the library can help you, your children, and the whole family!
Events + Programs
LBPL offers lots of entertaining and educational events just for kids at all of our library locations! After school clubs, studio workshops, family movies, and more. Check out our Event Calendar to see what's happening at your local Neighborhood Library.
LBPL has teamed up with the Long Beach Unified School District to create reading lists for students in grades K - 8. These reading lists are available for download in English and Spanish.
The ReadyRosie program provides a self-directed, digital platform for parents and families to access activities, best practices, and curated content to help engage children in developmentally-appropriate learning. Visit your Neighborhood Library to get free access to the ReadyRosie platform.
Personal + Professional Development
Our Digital Library provides resources for lifelong learning. Take a course at your own pace, or join an instructor led program. Choose from a variety of topics and professions. Looking to earn your high school diploma? We can help with that too.
At all Long Beach Public Library locations, parents and caregivers will find both fiction and nonfiction books on our Parenting Shelf that address the challenges of being a kid in today's world. These age-appropriate materials—many in picture book format—can help facilitate communication between adults and children who are dealing with difficult or complex topics, such as new siblings, death, divorce, discipline, potty training, new to school, friends, bullying, and much more.
