Residential Service

For customer safety and convenience, LBGO provides direct gas services including lighting pilots, inspecting and adjusting gas appliances, detecting and eliminating leaks and turning off gas at the meter.

New Residential Service
New residential service is coordinated through the Commercial Services Bureau, within the Department of Financial Management. The telephone number is (562) 570-5700. Commercial Services is located at 333 W. Ocean Boulevard in downtown Long Beach (City Hall - Lobby). Office hours are 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. You may also contact Commercial Services via the Internet at /commercial/utility/default.asp.

To establish residential service the following information and documentation is required:

  • Complete service address
  • Customer’s full name and the full name of all other adults at the service address.
  • Name, address and telephone number of employer.
  • Residential telephone or contact telephone number.
  • Customer’s social security number and driver’s license number.

Utility service (gas and water) turn on is completed on a next available working day basis. Scheduling early is therefore preferable. An adult generally must be present to have the services turned on, as the Gas Field Service Representative may have to enter the home to light pilots and conduct a safety check. Gas Field Service Representatives are not permitted to enter a home unless an adult, eighteen years or older, is present.

Fees and Deposits Required
Fees and deposits will be incorporated into your first bill dependent on the services requested.

  • $35.00 non-refundable service establishment fee for opening a gas account.
  • $35.00 deposit for gas service.
  • $25.00 deposit for water service.
  • $18.00 deposit for refuse service.

Billing Cycle and Late Fees

After 30 days a past due "Balance Forward" bill is produced. A "Shut Off" notice is mailed 14 days subsequent to advise that if payment is not made in seven days the service may be terminated. A late fee will be charged if payment is not received prior to the late payment date printed on your bill.  A late fee of $6.00 will be assessed on balances of $100 or less.  A late fee of 6% will be assessed on balances of over $100.
