Building & Safety Bureau
Staff for the Bureau -- which works to ensure that buildings are safe, sustainable and structurally sound -- responded to 8,338 phone calls for plan checks and completed reviews of 618 projects. A total of 1,507 permits were issued and 10,825 residential &commercial inspections were conducted.
Code Enforcement Bureau
Working to maintain and improve the quality of life of neighborhoods and community corridors, the Bureau received a total of 3,101 complaints, ranging from property maintenance issues to illegal garage conversions. The fines and fees that were billed for these various violations totaled $85,424.
Housing & Neighborhood Services Bureau
Tasked with helping create a more livable and sustainable community, Bureau staff conducted 98 property outreach activities by during the quarter along with 30 improvements activities that were completed for residential and non-residential projects.
The Bureau, which plays an essential role in shaping the City’s future, saw 101 historic preservation cases processed and completed, 30 project reviews conducted, and 4,130 customers assisted on the Bureau’s Zoning Information Line.

Long Beach is set to begin accepting Short-Term Rental (STR) registrations on Oct. 24, 2020. In preparation, City staff has been developing forms and posting information about the registration process.
Public Comment Period for Second Round Allocation of Emergency Solutions Grant Coronavirus (ESG-CV2)
In March 2020, the U.S. Congress approved emergency funding to assist local governments and community residents to respond to economic and other impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic, through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
New Development Permit Center Hours
The Permit Center is now operating under new business hours online and via phone and email. In-person services remain unavailable due to City Hall closure.
