Youth Leaders Honored by
City of Long Beach
Ten proud LBUSD students stood with the Mayor of Long Beach last December 2001, as they received prestigious Youth Leadership Awards from the city.
The awards were presented by the City of Long Beach Citizens Advisory Commission on Disabilities (CACOD) and LBUSD. The competition was open to all junior and senior high school students with disabilities. The candidates were judged on academic success, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.
Participating in the recognition luncheon for the City of Long Beach was Mayor Beverly O'Neill, Commissioner Soto, and CACOD Commissioners. Judy Elliott, Assistant Superintendent for the Office of Special Education, represented LBUSD.
"CACOD has done a great job to recognize these student leaders", said Judy Elliott. "We'll be publicizing the Youth Leadership Awards competition from now until October 15, 2002, the next deadline."
