Who do you keep birth certificates for?

The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services maintains birth records for babies born in Long Beach ONLY.These birth certificates can be purchased from our office until the child’s first birthday.Once the child is a year old the birth certificate can be obtained by contacting the Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office at (562) 462-2137.For births occurring outside of Los Angeles County, please call the county of birth directly as each jurisdiction has its owns procedures for obtaining birth certificates.

How can I get a certified copy of a birth certificate for a baby born in Long Beach who is still less than a year old?

In person, visit room 201 of the Health Department located at 2525 Grand Ave, Long Beach, CA 90815.Here you can complete an application and make a payment of $17(per certified copy) to the cashier in the form of cash, check, credit or money order.The birth certificate can be mailed or picked up at our office within a week. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but - NO BIRTH CERTIFICATES ARE AVAILABLE THE SAME DAY!

The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services maintains death records for people who died in Long Beach City WITHIN ONE YEAR OF DEATH ONLY. To obtain death certificates after one year from the date of death contact the Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office at (562) 462-2137.For deaths occurring outside of Los Angeles County, please contact the county of death, as each jurisdiction has its own procedures for obtaining death certificates.

How can I get a certified copy of a death certificate?

In person, visit Room 201 of the Health Department 2525 Grand Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90815 to pick up an application. The application can be completed and payment of $12.00 (per certified copy) may be made to the cashier in the form of cash, check or money order.
