Youth Health Education

Our mission is to foster an environment where youth are able to visualize a positive future for themselves, define their values, shape their realities, utilize resources and tools to achieve their dreams, and navigate through life as healthy and empowered people.

The Health Department has been an integral provider of prevention services in Los Angeles County since 1983. The Youth Health Education Program operates several programs that provide education and prevention services for youth, their parents, and adults who work with adolescents in the areas of HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and pregnancy. These behavior change and skills building programs have established linkages with community agencies in the greater Long Beach area to provide prevention education to local youth.

Presentations and workshops are available for youth, parents, and staff. All presentation/workshop requests should be made at least 2-4 weeks in advance, and be confirmed with Youth Health Education staff. For more information about the Youth Health Education Division, please contact Cheryl Barrit at (562) 570-7920.
