If state standards for recreational water quality are not met the beach is posted with signs warning the public to avoid body contact with the ocean water.


The information is also made available on the
hotline at (562) 570-4199. The health warning stays in effect for the beach until water resample results are below the state bacteriological standards.


What are the warning signs and what do they mean?




Bacteria levels are exceeded in an area
not adjacent to or influenced by storm drains.
You should avoid water contact, because it
may cause illness. However, the beach remains
open to the public for non-water activities.



Bacterial levels are exceeded in an area
at or near a storm drain. You should avoid water contact in front or adjacent to any flowing storm drains. However, the beach remains open to the public for non-water activities.


The water is contaminated by a sewage spill.
The sign is removed when levels of bacteria
are below state standards.


The water is contaminated from a substance other than a sewage spill. The sign is
removed when water condition is safe.



White croaker is contaminated
with
toxic substances and should not be consumed.
