The Promotora Training Academy was a comprehensive training program aimed to increase knowledge and awareness of environmental hazards. Thirty (30) community residents completed the five-day comprehensive training on eliminating or reducing housing-based health hazards leading to asthma, unintentional injury and lead poisoning. All trainings were presented in English and Spanish utilizing a certified interpreter. In addition, presentation materials and supplementary education materials were also provided both in English and Spanish. HHD has hired four Promotoras as community advocates assisting with tenant outreach, screening, enrollment and providing health education services to families that are interested in learning and implementing healthier living conditions in their home.
