About the Department

The Long Beach Harbor Department is the city agency responsible for management of the Port of Long Beach. Nearly $100 billion a year in trade moves through the Port, including clothing, toys, shoes, home furnishings and consumer electronics.
The Harbor Department operates under the direction of the Board of Harbor Commissioners. The commission leases Port shipping terminals to private firms, using lease payments to pay for Port development and maintenance. Port operations are not funded by taxpayers.
