The Operations Bureau

is managed by Deputy Fire Chief Mike Sarjeant, Assistant Chief Mike DuRee manages daily field operations (Districts 1, 2 and 3) and Special Operations (Airport, Port fireboats, USAR, Hazardous Materials, Strike Team/Mutual Aid and Terrorism/Weapons of Mass Destruction). The Bureau is responsible for all field operations including Fire Suppression, the Lifeguard Division, and fire/non-fire response activities. Clerical support for the Deputy Chief and the Operations Bureau is provided by Secretary, Marisa Carino.

The Marine Safety Division

is directed by Marine Safety Chief Randy Foster. The Division is responsible for the operation and management of the Marine Safety/Lifeguard Division and the safe and lawful use of the 9 miles of beaches, 5,300 acres of oceanfront property, waterways and marinas of the City of Long Beach. Additionally, the Marine Safety Division is responsible for the public safety of the 4,000 pleasure craft moored in the City's marinas and responding to water emergencies in the City's rivers and lakes. Clerical Assistance for the Marine Safety Division is provided by Clerk Typist Lori Lopez.

The Marine Safety Division consists of 27 full time employees, divided among boat and beach operations, with 140 seasonal personnel.

The Emergency Medical Services Division

The Division has administrative and operational responsibility for the design and delivery of all EMS system activities, including the certification of all uniformed personnel which consists of 84 authorized Firefighter/Paramedics and 3 Captain/Paramedics. All Long Beach Firefighters and Lifeguards are certified Emergency Medical Technician-Basics; 8 Lifeguards are certified as EMT-1-AAD (Advanced Airway and Defibrillation). The Division is staffed by Emergency Medical Education Coordinator, Joanne Dolan and Emergency Medical Educators Pat Meier and Don Gerety who provide Paramedic, EMT and Dispatcher continuing education and quality improvement. Clerical assistance for the EMS Division is provided by Clerk Typist, Mercy Tuinei.
