Cannabis Business Licenses

The Business License Division within the Department of Financial Management licenses all cannabis businesses within the City of Long Beach. 

Any business in Long Beach participating in the cultivation, possession, manufacture, distribution, processing, storing, laboratory testing, packaging, labeling, transportation, delivery, and/or sale of cannabis needs a cannabis business license. 

CITY HALL CLOSED
City Hall is currently closed to the public until further notice. During this time, ANY Cannabis applications that need to be submitted must be mailed to the address below:

Important Upcoming Deadline for Medical Cannabis Dispensary Businesses

On June 9, 2020, the City Council adopted a Resolution authorizing time-limited COVID-relief proposals for businesses and property owners. Consistent with the City Council action, the City Manager’s Office approved to extend the deadline for medical cannabis dispensaries to obtain a business license for an additional six-months, from October 1, 2020, to April 1, 2021.

New Cannabis Tax Rate for Manufacturers, Distributors, and Lab Testing Facilities

On January 7, 2020, the Long Beach City Council voted to amend Long Beach Municipal Code Section 3.80.261.C.4 lowering the business license tax rate for medical and adult-use cannabis manufacturers, distributors, and lab testing facilities from six percent (6%) of gross receipts to one percent (1%) of gross receipts.

The new tax rate will take effect beginning February 13, 2020.
