The City of Long Beach would like to provide clarifying information regarding the “Safer at Home” order issued by the Health and Human Services Department on March 19, 2020. The City is supportive of the statewide order issued by Governor Newsom, and the City’s order aligns with that direction. Further clarifying information is expected from the State on specific implementation, and until that guidance arrives, the City’s health order will be implemented in Long Beach to provide clarity.
“We are working with the State to provide additional clarity and guidance to their order and to align our local Long Beach order.” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “Among other things, this update clarifies that barber shops, hair and nail salons are non-essential businesses in our ‘Safer at Home’ order. We ask that you follow the City’s amended Health Order and we will provide any additional information if we find that the State’s order has additional restrictions.”

The City would also like to provide clarification regarding the classification of the following businesses/services:
Additionally, the State has released new guidance as it relates to Alcohol Beverage restrictions and suspending enforcement of specific legal prohibitions for businesses that are currently permitted to sell alcohol. These provisions allow on-sale retailers to sell for off-site consumption, sales of alcoholic beverages to go, and permit drive-thru service. As we continue to navigate through this unprecedented public health crisis, we will continue to review the statewide order to ensure the City’s compliance by amending our order accordingly.
The action was put in place by the City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis, and in accordance with the Emergency Powers granted to the City Manager through the Proclamation of Local Emergency.
