Senior Programming at the Expo!Release Date: 2016-11-07
One year ago, the Eighth District Senior Advisory Committee, in partnership with Councilmember Austin's office, launched a free program for seniors at the Expo Arts Center.
The Senior Advisory Council (SAC), after surveying a number of residents in the district, identified the need for a place for seniors in the Eighth District to gather, socialize and enjoy classes and group activities. The activities take place twice a week -- on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The structure of the programming on Tuesdays and Thursdays is as follows:
- 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Exercise class (Tuesdays: Tai Chi taught by Elizabeth Preston and Thursdays: Yoga taught by Veronica from Free Spirit Yoga)
- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Guest speaker (Tuesdays) and knitting taught by Wini Carter, as well as arts and crafts by Shoshanah Siegel and Delfina Skalland (Thursdays)
- 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.: Lunch
- 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Music, bingo, cards and board games
Senior Activities at the Expo are sponsored in part by the Port of Long Beach.
