About This Taskforce

The 5th Council District Lakes, Ponds and Wetlands Taskforce work together to improve the quality of Long Beach lakes, ponds and wetlands for plants, animals, and humans. Participants provide feedback and make recommendations to Councilwoman Schipske regarding Long Beach’s natural bodies of water.

The Taskforce has been instrumental in developing signage at Long Beach’s lakes and ponds informing people that it is both harmful and dangerous to feed the birds. Regular feeding of waterfowl can cause dependency on people for food, the spread of disease, and aggressive behavior towards humans.

The Taskforce has also toured Long Beach’s lakes, ponds, and wetlands in order to get a first hand view of the habitat they work to protect. The Taskforce is open to the public, and you can check this website for upcoming meetings, or contact the Office Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske at 562-570-6932 or District5@longbeach.gov
