On Friday, November 6, 2009, at approximately 9:49 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a vehicle versus bicyclist traffic collision at Magnolia Avenue and 6th Street that resulted in the death of an adult male.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was riding a bicycle southbound on Magnolia Avenue and crossing 6th Street against a red light, when he was struck by a 1995 Chevy van that was traveling eastbound on 6th Street crossing Magnolia Avenue.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the van was interviewed and released at the scene.
The victim, a male Asian approximately 65 years old, carried no identification and is being listed as a John Doe until further indentification can be made.
