The City of Long Beach has renewed its contract with a liquefied natural gas supplier to power its fleet of LNG vehicles, saving money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The City of Long Beach’s commitment to alternative fuels and sustainable practices has resulted in a 25 percent decrease in fuel cost for LNG vehicles. The City of Long Beach currently maintains a LNG fleet of approximately 70 vehicles ranging from sweepers, dump trucks to asphalt patch trucks. Long Beach’s LNG vehicles have contributed to a 15 to 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over equivalent diesel engines.
"This contract renewal ensures that the City of Long Beach will continue to utilize clean-burning, domestically produced fuel for our LNG vehicles," said Erik Sund, City Purchasing Agent.
The City currently uses approximately 10,000 gallons of LNG per week. Applied LNG Technologies (ALT) has provided LNG to the City of Long Beach since 2003. ALT is a subsidiary of Dallas-based Earth Biofuels (OTCBB: EBOF), which has the exclusive license to sell and distribute Willie Nelson’s BioWillie biodiesel fuel.
Overall, the City of Long Beach has approximately 280 alternative fuel vehicles.
