REGINALD “REGGIE” HARRISON Deputy City Manager City of Long Beach
Reginald “Reggie” Harrison was appointed Deputy City Manager of the City of Long Beach in February 2001. In this capacity he reports directly to the City Manager of the 7th largest City in California. Prior to this appointment Reggie served as the City’s Housing Authority Bureau Manager, Economic Development Bureau Manager and Acting Director of the Community Development Department. In 2010 he was appointed Acting Director of the Planning and Building Department.
Reggie has over 20 years of experience in municipal governance, having worked for the cities of San Diego and Carlsbad before joining the City of Long Beach in 1996. As the Deputy City Manager, he has oversight for many of the City’s service delivery departments.
Reggie is also responsible for the implementation of the City’s economic development strategies to create jobs, retain and grow local businesses and attract new businesses to the City of Long Beach. He has played a key role in the development of every major project in the City of Long Beach for the past 10 years. Reggie’s broad background in housing, economic development, redevelopment and his “entrepreneurial spirit” have made him well suited to help lead the City and its residents during this economic down turn.
Reggie’s management style is a unique blend of organizational efficiencies derived from a 25-year military career; he is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, from the California Army National Guard. Reggie has a Masters Degree in Business Administration and an undergraduate degree in Psychology. He resides in Long Beach, where he is an active participant in the community and a member of several boards and commissions.
