Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program

On July 1, 2010, the City of Long Beach announced the start of the Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program, designed to encourage Long Beach businesses who have implemented sustainable practices to share their success stories and be recognized for going green.

Local businesses are invited to submit an online application highlighting their green efforts.  Businesses who have implemented actions that improve the environment, increase efficiency and conservation and save money in six sustainability categories will be recognized each month.  Selected businesses will have their business profile and best practices posted on www.sustainablelb.com and will be recognized at a Sustainable City Commission meeting.

To be considered for recognition under the Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program, a Long Beach business must demonstrate green business practices in each of the following areas: Waste Reduction & Recycling, Alternative Transportation, Green Purchasing, Water Conservation & Pollution Prevention, Energy Efficiency & Conservation, and Staff Training & Public Awareness.

Sustainability is a business strategy – one that has staying power because it can increase worker productivity, can improve a company’s public image and can save companies money; none of which go out of style.  The Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program encourages businesses to take responsibility for positively contributing to a greener Long Beach.
