An internship with the City of Long Beach Public Information Office offers insight into local government while sharpening your writing skills by crafting press releases, pitching articles to local media and honing strategic communication skills while under the supervision of an experienced mentor.
One internship will be offered each semester and interns will have the opportunity to work with a small team on complex, high-level media and communications projects. On-the-job training, supervision and development will be provided, but successful applicants will be expected to have a solid understanding of the news media and communications strategies and technologies. Knowledge of local government is preferred.
Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be at least a Junior & be pursuing a degree in Journalism, Public Administration, Marketing or related field. Interns will be selected based on their initiative & a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, strong writing & communication skills & the ability to work in teams & independently. This is an unpaid internship, and can be used for college credit. Interns receive a free bus pass, enjoy flexible schedules & work in downtown Long Beach.
