The Government Affairs office maintains intergovernmental relations and tracks state and federal legislation for the City of Long Beach. The Government Affairs Manager assists elected officials and senior management in directing legislative priorities and ensures that contracted legislative advocates carry out the City’s legislative strategies. This office provides timely background information, bill analysis, technical assistance, and recommendations regarding various legislative issues, public and internal communication projects and related intergovernmental activities to the Mayor and City Council, Senior Management, and City departments. Government Affairs staff also provide technical support to the State and Federal Legislation Committees of the City Council.
