What does spay and neuter cost?

Participating veterinary hospitals and clinics have different pricing and requirements to perform spay and neuter services on your pet (i.e. costs may include vaccination, anesthesia, pain medication, overnight stay, etc.)  Availability and pricing may vary based on the size, weight and sex of your pet. It is recommended that you call ahead to compare pricing.

Does the City of Long Beach recommend a particular veterinary hospital or clinic?

No.  The City does not recommend or show favor to one business over another.  The participating veterinary hospitals and clinics have agreed to accept the Long Beach Spay and Neuter Voucher but it is the responsibility of the animal owner to select a service provider based on their own personal preferences.  The City is not responsible for the services provided.  Feedback may be sent to animalcare@longbeach.gov.

What is the duration of the Feline Fix Spay and Neuter Voucher program?

The program will begin August 2009 and continue until current funds are exhausted or until all vouchers are distributed for the year.  Vouchers will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

How is this program being funded?

Funding for this program comes from State mandated spay and neuter penalties and generous donations collected by Animal Care Services. No municipal General Fund dollars are utilized for this program.  The availability of vouchers is contingent on the number of spay and neuter penalties collected and the amount of private donations received each year.
