    • How do I Adopt a Pet?

Since our partnership with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) and the opening of the Companion Animal Village in August 2001, the spcaLA provides much of the adoption services for the City of Long Beach Animal Care Services. Pets available for adoption will be found in the spcaLA’s holding Cottages 2, 3, and 4 and Cat housing areas, located in the Main/Administration building. You can also view spcaLA adoptable animals at their website. Dogs are on this page and cats are on this page. For these pets please go directly to the spcaLA counter and inquire about adopting the pet.

Animals not selected by the spcaLA for adoption can still be adopted through a special arrangement with one of our registered Animal Rescue Organization Partners. If you wish to adopt a pet, you will be required to fill out an Adoption Questionnaire and must qualify. It is the goal of the Companion Animal Village to place all adoptable pets into a proper, loving home where they will be a companion for life. Some animals may not be made available for adoption to the public due to health or behavioral problems. Pets that pose a threat to the public will not be made available for adoption.

      • Animal Rescue Organizations may have the right to adopt any pet prior to being euthanized through the Animal Control’s 501 (c)(3) Animal Rescue Organization Adoption Program.
