News ImageFifth Annual Solar Grand Prix Powers Dreams at “El Dorado Park Raceway,” March 8
Sixty-nine teams from 19 different schools and organizations in and around Long Beach will compete in the Fifth annual Solar Grand Prix hosted by Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske. More than 400 students, coaches and volunteers will participate on race day. Students grades 6-12 will race solar-powered model cars they have designed, powered only by the sun.

Council Passes Item to Join LAEDC and Others to Apply for Federal Manufacturing Community Designation
On Tuesday, City Council passed Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske’s agenda item to request participation in LA County Economic Development Corporation’s effort to have Los Angeles County federally designated a manufacturing community.
Schipske Secures Funding for 4th of July Fireworks Show at Vets Stadium
For over 30 years, the Long Beach Firefighter Foundation sponsored a fireworks show in Vets Stadium adjacent to Long Beach City College. Then suddenly two years ago, the Foundation packed up the show and took it to Alamitos Bay for July 3rd complaining that it was too expensive to continue the show at Vets Stadium.

Schipske Asks Council to Mark Success of Vial of LIFE Program and Distribution of 20,000 Kits Since Program Launched in 2012
It’s been only two years since the Vial of LIFE (LIFE is the abbreviaton for Lifesaving Information for Emergencies) program was launched but to date more than 20,000 kits have been assembled and distributed says Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske who brought the program to Long Beach in 2012.

Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske thinks the expression that “charity should being at home” might also apply to taxpayer funded pensions are invested and called on the City Council to assist Long Beach businesses in pursuing investment of City pension funds back into Long Beach.

Schipske Calls for Suspension of Contract to Develop Request for Proposals on Civic Hall and Main Library
Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske today disclosed that she has agendized an item at City Council on February 11, which calls for the suspension of the contract to develop a request for proposals on a new city hall and main library so that the next Council can decide whether or not to move forward.

Park Planning Commisssion to Consider Proposed Cell Phone Tower at Wardlow Park on Thursday

The City of Long Beach Parks and Recreation Commission will consider recommending approval by City Council and Planning Commission of the placement of a new Cellular Tower at Wardlow Park. The public is invited to listen to presentation and make public comment.
